The Decom Project Management team is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Greater Dunlin Area Decommissioning Project infrastructure removal activities phase, focusing primarily on removal of the Dunlin Alpha platform topsides and Osprey & Merlin subsea field infrastructure. With respect to the Dunlin platform, the team is actively involved in structural condition assessment, whilst supporting external studies are currently being undertaken to enable evaluation of the most efficient removal methodology for topsides removal.
Subsea Infrastructure Decommissioning (SID) activities have also been progressed, involving the commencement of the stakeholder consultation process in relation to the subsea infrastructure elements associated with the Osprey and Merlin subsea fields, both of which are tied-back to Dunlin platform and with respect to the subsea infrastructure which connects the Dunlin installation to other installations in the Northern North Sea. In order to facilitate this process, key stakeholders have been engaged and continue to participate in the Scoping and Option Screening stages of the overall comparative assessment process, as analysis gets underway on the significant infrastructure removal decisions.

In addition, we are undertaking the appraisal of a variety of topsides removal techniques from single lift through to reverse engineering and piece small, in order to identify the optimal decommissioning solution for Dunlin Alpha. This complex decommissioning project has involved early engagement with the supply chain in order to undertake discrete studies, develop a better understanding of existing capability, and assessment of the maturity of potential new technologies. We have also taken advantage of industry forums in seeking external support for unique technical challenges, which include the likes of leg transition cutting and subsea equipment flushing, in order to ensure that all work is planned and executed safely and efficiently”.
